Eloy Maestas

Eloy Maestas, 81, went on his journey to meet his Lord, Friday, November 1, 2019, where he passed in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Eloy was raised in Chama, NM. He was a straight‑A student throughout school. He was honored valedictorian of his class of 1956 and received 3 college scholarships. His kids and grandkids were amazed at his knowledge of any subject. 

Eloy loved to fish in the great Chama River since he was a young boy. He started working at the age of 11 doing different jobs to help his Grandmother and Aunt Ester who raised him and his brother Ben. He worked at Jones Mercantile until he left Chama to move to Albuquerque to begin his life with his soulmate Margie. For all of his life, he was a generous man who could be depended on for anything. In Albuquerque he worked different jobs, but for his last job, he became a milkman for 31 years and retired at 65 years old. His happiest moments were when he was working in his yard; fishing, camping and hunting; spending time with family; and most of all when he was hanging with his first love and soulmate Margie.

Eloy is preceded in death by his parents Alvaro G. and Bessie Maestas, son Michael A. Maestas, grandmother Erminda Maestas, stepmother Siria Maestas, great grandson Isaiah Stewart, and beloved family member Sharon Keilbarth.

Eloy is survived by his wife, Margie Maestas, who he met when he was twelve and she was eleven. They started dating four years later in Chama and married at 21 years of age. They are soulmates and were married for 60years. He is also survived by his brother Benjamin "Bengy" Maestas, daughters; Carol Maestas (Ken Detrick), Patricia Maestas, Syndee Maestas (Kirk), daughter in law Suzie Maestas, grandchildren; Leah Stewart (Brandon), Jonathan Chavez (Raquel), Estevan Maestas, Xavier Lucero (Elyse), Zacharia Lucero (Maia), Richard Keilbarth (Ashley), great grandchilden; Gabrielle, Izabelle, Kallai, Jiselle, Mya, Elliot, Noah, Caleb, and Karen. He had many friends, family, nieces and cousins who loved him very much.

Eloy's Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, 87102. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery located at 924 Menaul Blvd NE, 87107. A Reception will follow Interment at the Salazar Mortuary Event Center.
