Matilda Cherry Obituary

Matilda Emma Torres-Cherry, 76 years old, passed away June 5th. 2018 in bed comfortable surrounded by her family.  Matilda was and always will be a loving Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Matilda- also known as Tillie was born on September 12th, 1941 in Artesia, New Mexico daughter to Lilia and Raymond Torres. Tillie was not only the eldest sister to Alice and Frank Torres she filled the place of her father and took on many jobs to support her family. Tillie even quit school so that she could assist her mother in getting her siblings through school. Matilda became a nurse at the age of 19 and continued in the medical field throughout her life time.

As a devoted Christian Matilda grew in her relationship with Jesus and was truly a servant of God. Matilda even led many of her patients to the Lord in the many years she was a caregiver. Tillie not only raised her own children- Yvette, Nicole and Lloyd, she assisted with raising her grandchildren- Danielle, Jacob, Ashley, Zachary, Benny, Joseph and many more. Matilda did her best to plant God’s seed in each of their life’s. Matilda was always so strong and independent, going without so she could give to others even if it was the clothing off her own back. Words could not explain how much this amazing woman means to everyone she has ever met. Danielle and Cassey were so honored to have her in their home the last days of her life. Tillie will be missed every day.
