Richard James Callahan Obituary

Richard James Callahan, 88, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps went peacefully to the Lord on July 6, 2018.

Richard was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 25, 1930. He was married to Bernadette Callahan (Gutierrez) on March 27, 1970; they were married for 48 wonderful years and created a beautiful life for their family.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette Callahan, his loving sister, Lillian Roybal, and his children: Chris Acosta of Mobile, Alabama, Jenny Thatcher and husband, Keith of Austin, Texas, Ana Segura and husband, Patrick of Albuquerque, Cheri Clark and husband, Keith of Dallas, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Ginny Callahan, wife of his late son, Tom Callahan of Albuquerque; and his 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Richard held a deep love for his entire family including numerous nieces, nephews, and friends that felt like family.

Richard worked many years for the City of Albuquerque as a SunTran bus driver. He was highly regarded by fellow bus drivers and customers alike. He was well known for his impeccable uniforms, spit shined shoes and arriving early to work to clean his bus for the day. He received many commendations throughout his career and compliments from customers that traveled to Albuquerque from all around the globe. He took great pride in everything he did and made friends everywhere he went. Richard enjoyed drinking coffee at Dunkin Donuts, spending the day at Old Town, watching Lobo basketball, and hosting holidays for friends and family in their home.
