Obituary

Andrea Clorinda DeMmon “Andy” was born on November 30, 1938 in Torreon, New Mexico. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

She is preceded in death by her husband John L DeMmon, Sr.; sister Eliza Barela; brothers: Boycito, Eloy, Albert, Tony, and Ray.

She is survived by her sisters: Teresa Garley (Clyde McKenzi); Lillian (Garley) Chacon (Robert); Grace (Garley) Gonzalez (Al); Vivian (Garley) Shimabuku, brother Larry Garley, sons: John DeMmon, Jr. (Linda); Michael DeMmon (Laura and sons Antonio, Diego); David DeMmon (Karen and son Corbin). As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1957. Andrea continued her education in nursing. She graduated from Regina School of Nursing in Albuquerque in 1965.

As head surgical nurse at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque for over 20 years, she helped pioneer Heart surgery including heart transplants by assisting doctors with her expertise, training and dedication. While serving as head surgical nurse, Andrea continued her education and earned her Master of Business Administration from St. Francis College.

After earning her MBA, Andrea moved to Texas. In addition to continuing her career in nursing, she also successfully directed three hospitals.

When Andrea returned to Albuquerque, she worked at the Veterans Administration hospital in the quadriplegic word. She often worked extra shifts, holidays and weekends when scheduled staff did not come to work.

Andrea’s interests and hobbies were numerous. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, dancing, bridge and never missed Jeopardy. She was an avid Lobo fan-had season tickets to the Lobo’s as soon as the Pit was completed and never missed a baseball, basketball or football game. Or a Duke’s baseball game with season tickets located behind the catcher. She loved to travel and became a “globetrotter” visiting many European countries as well as Africa, Mexico, Canada. And she enjoyed her numerous cruises.

She married John L. DeMmon Sr who passed away February 15, 2024 and had three very active sons-John, Michael, David-who were also active in sports. She attended every football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, track game they were in. She worked side-by-side with her husband to form the Mid Heights Little League in the South valley. She was extremely popular with the Little League members and they often said “I want to ride with Mrs. DeMmon in her Cadilac”

Andrea will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a loving and caring person to her husband and all who knew her-doctor, nurse, patient and their families as well as her own her family members. She will also be remembered as a constant nurse to her very active boys who she took to the emergency room almost weekly. Andrea is now “Safe in the arms of God”
