Gary Lee Portzline

Gary Lee Portzline, 82, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away in the early morning on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. 

He is survived by his daughter Brenda Newell and her husband Tom, of Albuquerque; son James Portzline and his wife Barbra, of Albuquerque; cherished grandchildren: Sydney Newell, Ezra Newell, Soren Portzline, Rio Portzline; brother Carl Portzline; two sisters: Nancy Lebkicher, and Ann Ford.

Gary was born on May 4, 1944, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. At the age of 18, he proudly answered the call to serve is country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he served honorably for 3 years.

While station at Kirtland Airforce Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he met the love of his life, Shirley, in 1965. Their friendship quickly blossomed into love and they were engaged for almost three years while he was then stationed in Germany. Upon returning, they married in April of 1968. Together they bult a life centered on love, family and lasting memories.

Gary will be remembered for witty humor, devotions to his family, and the love he shared throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

Gary's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00am at Reflections Chapel located at 2400 Washington St. NE, 87110. Rosary will be recited at 11:00am. Catholic Service will begin at 11:30am. Gary will be laid to rest with Military honors at 2:00pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N. Guadalupe St., 87501.
