James Long

July 14, 1993 — February 29, 2024

James Long, a cherished soul whose radiant smile and boundless passion for art and faith illuminated the lives of all who knew him, left to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on July 14, 1993, in the same vibrant city, James's journey was one marked by creativity, love, and an unwavering commitment to glorify God in all his endeavors.

James was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Benjamin E. Lucero; maternal grandmother Fabiola (Fernandez) Lucero; paternal grandmother Alice (John) Valdez; and paternal grandfather Thomas J. Long.

He is survived by his father Tommy Long; mother Priscilla (Lucero) Long; brothers: Stephen Long, Jesse Long; sister: Alicia (Vince) Santiago; grandmother Patsy Long; nephew Amani Hayward-Santiago; and niece Azalea Santiago.

A brilliant mind, James earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico, where he was admired for his intelligence and the genuine care he extended to everyone around him. His academic achievements, however, were paralleled by his artistic pursuits. James was a gifted artist, expressing his passion through painting, ceramics, and he was involved in the design and installment of the ceramic murals that now grace downtown Second street of the Albuquerque Convention Center. His artwork was not just a display of talent but a testament to his creative spirit and his desire to bring beauty into the world.

James's love for his community was evident in the way he lived his life. He was a man of deep faith, always ready to offer a prayer for anyone in need, embodying the very essence of compassion and kindness. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.

Described by those who knew him as creative, passionate, and loving, James will be profoundly missed. His big smile and the love he shared will forever be etched in the hearts of his friends, colleagues, and the community he so ardently served and cherished.
