It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Jose I. Baca, a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and retired Albuquerque Police Officer, who passed away on March 14, 2026, at the age of 64.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose I. Baca Sr. and Stella Baca, father-in-law Simon Saiz.
Joe was a devoted husband and survived by his wife Elizabeth Baca, a proud father of three children: Joe I. Baca III and wife Vianey, Monique Hill and husband Rodney, Justin Baca and wife Lindsey; sisters: Anita Aragon and husband Eric Aragon, Gloria Mendoza and husband Gilbert Mendoza, and Peggy Garcia and husband David Garcia; mother-in-law Dora Saiz, he was a cherished grandfather of eight: Jolyssa, Urijah, Joe IV, Jolynn, Blair, Wyatt, Azariah, Emmerson. As well as those who considered him their grandpa, Ray David, Raymundo, and Rhaelynn, all who brought immense joy to his life.
After proudly serving as an officer and detective in the city of Albuquerque with the Albuquerque Police Department. He retired with the respect and gratitude for his colleagues and the countless people whose lives he touched.His career in law enforcement was defined by dedication, integrity, and a genuine commitment to protecting and serving his community. Beyond the badge, he was best known for his unwavering love for his family.
His family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor, and the way he always put the needs of others before his own. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren- respect, hard work, and compassion for others.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family, former colleagues, and many friends.
His watch has ended, and while his passing leaves a tremendous void, the memories he created and the lives he influenced will endure for generations.
Joe's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church located at 3424 Fourth St. NW, 87107. Mass will be held of Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00am also at at the Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church. Joe will be laid to rest following the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.
