Joe Prospero Montoya passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Macario and Sinforosa Montoya; beloved wife of 43 years, Ramie Vigil Montoya; brother Givi Montoya; and granddaughter Adrianna Trujillo.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jean Duran and her husband Ruben, Ray Montoya, Sandi Archuleta, Lynette Trujillo, Maxine Montoya and her husband Sean Roberts, Chris Montoya and his wife Holly; cherished life partner Rosanna Almarez. Joe leaves behind a beautiful legacy of eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; siblings: Henry Montoya and his wife Lizzy, Lourdes Garcia and her husband Willie, Pauline Garcia, Rita Eberting and her husband Darrel, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was born on September 8, 1932, in Escobosa, New Mexico. Joe lived a full and meaningful life, rooted in love for his family. He was a regional music celebrity as lead singer with Manny and the Casanovas.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Joe's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 6:00pm at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Final Viewing will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 8:00am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church located at 9502 4th St. NW, 87114. Mass will begin at 9:00am.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Armijo, Justin Montoya, Adam Trujillo, Andrew Archuleta, Chris Montoya, Jr., and Elijah Marquez.
