Louis L. Mares

April 12, 1952 — August 25, 2026

Louis Mares, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, lived a life marked by hard work, devotion, and an unmistakable spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Mares, mother Irene Mares, brother James Mares, and mother-in-law Lillian Trujillo.

Louis is survived by his wife Margaret Mares, children: RosaLee Mares, Louis Mares II, Avelina Mares, grandchildren: Matthew Madore II, Elijah Madore, Isaiah Madore, and Isaac Torres.

Louis was a man of many talents and even more passions. He had a green thumb and found great joy in gardening, carefully tending to the plants he loved and collecting them with pride. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, feeling most at home when the road stretched ahead of him. A master mechanic and machinist, Louis had a remarkable gift for understanding how things worked and for making them work better. He appreciated classic rock music, and those songs often provided the soundtrack to a life lived with energy, grit, and character. He was also known for his excellent cooking, especially his red chile, grits, and beans, all of which he made with skill and care.

In his younger days, Louis played tennis and carried that same competitive spirit and determination throughout his life. He had a wide range of interests and collected many things over the years, including plants, knives, t-shirts, knickknacks, and pocket watches. He took great pride in his 1952 pickup truck, a vehicle that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and the things that endure. Louis was passionate in all that he did, and he was known as loving, generous, and truly one of a kind. Though small in stature, he was big in every other way, and those who knew him often described him as a LEGEND.

Above all else, Louis’s greatest success was his family. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and he treasured those roles deeply. His family was the center of his world, and he gave them his time, his strength, and his unwavering support. He especially cherished the grandchild he helped raise, and he did anything and everything for that child with a devotion that spoke volumes about the depth of his heart. His love for his family was steady and unconditional, and it was reflected in the many ways he showed up for them throughout his life.

Louis will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous nature, and the warmth he brought into the lives of others. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his presence carried both humor and sincerity. He was the kind of man who could fix what was broken, cook a memorable meal, and offer wise counsel without ever asking for recognition. His legacy is found not only in the things he built and collected, but also in the family he loved, the friendships he formed, and the countless memories he created.

His life was a testament to loyalty, resilience, and love. Louis Mares will be remembered with great affection and respect by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, craftsmanship, and family pride that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
