Margarita Lopez, beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 103.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roberto Luis Sosa, the father of her children; second husband, Felipe Velarde; mother Rosario Lopez; brother Luis Lopez; son Roberto Luis Sosa; daughters: Ana Maria Sosa Arvallo, Rosalba Sosa; grandsons: Jose Luis Sosa, Francisco Monarrez, and Roberto Sosa Ramos. They now welcome her home into eternal peace.

Margarita is survived by her devoted daughters: Socorro Sosa, Elsa Castillo, Isela Hernandez; sons-in-law: Felix Castillo, Victor Hernandez; grandchildren: Rosa Reyes Sosa, Maribel Chavez, Marisol Sosa, Gloria Sosa, Jorge Sosa, Liliana Sosa, Claudia Sosa De Leon, Victor Castillo, Albert Alanis, Miguel Hernandez, Janet Hernandez, Erica Castillo-Dominguez, Monica Castillo, Yadira Sosa Ramos; great-grandchildren: Isaac, Brittany, Fernando, Luis, Julio, Ruben, Mario, Natalia, Stephen, Isabella, Sophia, Santiago, Adelina, Ariel, Katelyn, Dustin, Mason, Victor Miguel, Ariany; and great-great-grandchild Bre'ella. Each of them carries forward the values she instilled through a lifetime of devotion.

A woman of deep faith and extraordinary resilience, Margarita dedicated her life to the family she cherished and the God she faithfully served. Her passing leaves a profound absence, yet her legacy of love, hard work, and generosity endures.

Margarita was born on February 22, 1923, in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, where she met Roberto and together they started their family. In time, they moved to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. In 1970, Margarita made the courageous decision to move to the United States, settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, determined to build a better life for her family. She found employment at the Four Seasons as a cook, a position she held with pride for years. After retiring, she moved in with her daughter Elsa and son-in-law Felix, dedicating herself to raising Erica and Monica while their parents worked. For her, it was the chance to finally give what she always wanted to give: her time, her presence, and all of her love.

Margarita's life was rich with passion and simple, enduring joys. She was a gifted crocheter whose hands were rarely idle, creating beautiful works she shared with family and friends, a passion she held dear until arthritis stilled her hands. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She read her Bible daily and attended church with unwavering devotion. She treasured time with her family above all else and found peace in the quiet beauty of nature. The sound of live Mariachi music could light up her face in an instant, carrying her back to memories of her youth and the adventurous stories she loved to share with anyone willing to listen, filling rooms with laughter and warmth. In her later years, she found great enjoyment in watching Turkish soap operas, a pastime that brought her daily delight. Margarita was not simply a woman who lived. She was a woman who gave life meaning for everyone around her.

Margarita's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 8:00am at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. There will be a at 9:30am at San Jose Parish located at 2401 Broadway Blvd SE, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 10:00am. Mass will begin at 10:30am. Margarita will be laid to rest following the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.

Margarita Lopez lived a life defined not by what she had, but by how deeply she loved. Her family was her world, her faith was her guide, and her spirit will remain a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her. May Margarita rest in the eternal peace she so richly deserves.

Cada uno de ellos lleva consigo los valores que ella sembró a lo largo de una vida de entrega y devoción.

Mujer de profunda fe y extraordinaria fortaleza, Margarita dedicó su vida a la familia que tanto amó y al Dios al que fielmente sirvió. Su partida deja una profunda ausencia, pero su legado de amor, trabajo y generosidad perdura.

Margarita nació el 22 de febrero de 1923, en Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, México, donde conoció a Roberto y juntos formaron su familia. Con el tiempo, se mudaron a Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. En 1970, Margarita tomó la valiente decisión de mudarse a los Estados Unidos, estableciéndose en Albuquerque, Nuevo México, decidida a construir una mejor vida para su familia. Encontró empleo en el Four Seasons como cocinera, un puesto que desempeñó con orgullo durante años. Después de jubilarse, se mudó a la casa de su hija Elsa y su yerno Felix, dedicándose a la crianza de Erica y Monica mientras sus padres trabajaban. Para ella, fue la oportunidad de finalmente dar lo que siempre quiso dar: su tiempo, su presencia y todo su amor.

La vida de Margarita fue rica en pasión y alegrías sencillas que perduraron con el tiempo. Fue una talentosa tejedora de crochet cuyas manos rara vez descansaban, creando hermosas piezas que compartía con familiares y amigos, una pasión que mantuvo hasta que la artritis no se lo permitió más. Su fe fue el pilar de su vida. Leía su Biblia todos los días y asistía a la iglesia con una devoción que nunca flaqueó. El tiempo con su familia era lo que más atesoraba, y encontraba paz en la tranquilidad de la naturaleza. El sonido de Mariachi en vivo le iluminaba el rostro al instante, llevándola de vuelta a los recuerdos de su juventud y a las historias que le encantaba contar a quien quisiera escuchar, llenando cada momento de risa y calidez. En sus últimos años, también disfrutaba mucho ver telenovelas turcas, algo que le brindaba alegría y entretenimiento a diario. Margarita no fue simplemente una mujer que vivió. Fue una mujer que le dio sentido a la vida de todos los que la rodearon.

La Celebración de la Vida de Margarita comenzará con un velatorio el viernes 6 de marzo de 2026 a las 8:00 a. m. en la Funeraria Salazar, ubicada en 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Habrá un velatorio a las 9:30 a. m. en la Parroquia San José, ubicada en 2401 Broadway Blvd SE, 87102. Se rezará el rosario a las 10:00 a. m. La misa comenzará a las 10:30 a. m. Después de la misa, Margarita será sepultada en el Cementerio Monte Calvario, ubicado en 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.

Margarita Lopez vivió una vida definida no por lo que tuvo, sino por la profundidad con la que amó. Su familia fue su mundo, su fe fue su guía, y su espíritu será una bendición para todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerla. Que Margarita descanse en la paz eterna que tanto merece.
