Maria Cristina Medrano

Maria "Cristy" Cristina Zamudio Medrano passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 85.

Cristy was preceded in death by her husband Fred and son Richard. 

She is survived by her daughter Adrienne; grandchildren: Dustin, Brooke, Devin, Matthew, Brittany; great-grandchildren: Abigail, Jayden, Cameron, Micah; sisters-in-law: Genoveva, Aurelia, and brother-in-law, Daniel.

Born in Mexico City on July 24, 1941, Cristy spent her early career working as a secretary and teaching English from the 1960s through the 1980s. In 1983, she married the love of her life, Ferdinand "Fred" Medrano, and she became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1988.

Together, Cristy and Fred enjoyed traveling throughout North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. In 2007, the couple relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she resided for the remainder of her life as a devoted and loving wife.

Cristy had a lifelong interest in the arts, which began in her youth with traditional Spanish dance and castanets. Later in life, she and Fred frequently attended classical music concerts. She also expressed her creativity by making unique art gifts from recycled materials for family and friends. Her warmth and spirit will be deeply missed.

Cristy's Life Celebration will begin with a gathering on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 12:00pm at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Service will begin at 12:30pm. Cristy will be laid to rest at 2:45pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St. 87501.
