Mariah Ashley Herrera, a radiant and loving spirit, departed this world on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 30.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Eloy Herrera; uncles: Carl Herrera, Kevin Herrera; maternal grandfather Jose “Grandpooch” Lopez, and by her most beloved companion Oliver “Ollie”.

Mariah is survived by her "Papa" Levi Herrera; mother, Sonia “Mama Bear” Lopez; sissy Meaghan Herrera; stepmother, Eileen La Riva-Herrera; sisters: Madeline Herrera, Marielle Herrera, beloved Booboo, AJ Varela, and her cherished Amelia and Wallen, grandmother Lucrecia Herrera; the extended Herrera, Godfrey, and Reynolds families; her Nanny, Maria Lopez; and the Lopez, Valdez, and Martin families.

Born on January 30, 1995, in Vista, California, Mariah's zest for life and infectious smile blessed those around her from the very beginning. She passed away peacefully in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and joy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

 A true entrepreneur at heart, Mariah followed her passion for animals and established her own successful dog grooming business. Her love for her canine companions was unmatched, and she treated every pet with the care and affection as if they were her own children. Her drive and independence were further exemplified when she achieved the milestone of buying her own house at the young age of 28, a testament to her determination and hard work. 

Mariah's interests were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. She found solace in the beauty of beaches and the tranquility of nature, often spending her free time exploring the outdoors. Her love for music was apparent to anyone who knew her, with artists like Chris Brown, Morgan Wallen, and Riley Green frequently gracing her playlists. Mariah also had a remarkable talent in the kitchen, known especially for her delicious red and green enchiladas that brought friends and family together around the table, always prepared with love and leaving everyone asking for seconds.

 A food enthusiast, Mariah savored the simple pleasures of a well-made spaghetti, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy dish. She also enjoyed the complex flavors of Chinese cuisine, and the comfort of a warm Pizookie from BJ's. 

Above all, Mariah's purpose in life was to spread happiness and love to those she encountered. She exuded a warmth that drew people to her, and her capacity to love and be loved was boundless. Her home was a haven, not only for her beloved dogs but also for anyone in need of kindness and a generous spirit. 

Her collection of elephant trinkets was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of her personality—strong, yet gentle, and always protecting her herd. Mariah's giving nature was evident in all her actions, whether it was a heartfelt gift, a thoughtful gesture, or simply her time. 

Mariah was truly beautiful, both inside and out. Her genuine soul, joyful laughter, and sassy wit brightened every room she entered. Those fortunate enough to have been touched by her gorgeous smile and beautiful heart will remember Mariah as a beacon of light in their lives. 

We bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose memory will continue to inspire love and generosity in others. Mariah Ashley Herrera's spirit will forever dance in the waves of the beaches she adored and in the hearts of the many lives she touched. Though her time with us was cut short, the beauty of her life will resonate for generations to come.

Mariah's Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Eastern Hills Baptist Church located at 3100 Morris St. NE, 87111.
