Maria "Marillita" Martinez, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elias and Gregorita Mora Tapia.
Marillita is survived by her husband of almost 64 years Bernardo Martinez; eight children: Betty Roybal, Rosemary Ewing, Danny Martinez, Anna Martinez and husband Jimmy Silva, Louie Martinez and wife Molly, Gregorita Romero, Dolores Romero and husband Anthony and Bernardo Martinez, Jr.; 33 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Marillita, affectionally known Abuelita, had a passion for life that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her unwavering spirit and generous nature left an indelible mark on her community, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she enriched.
Marillita was a devout Catholic who dedicated much of her time and energy to her faith. It was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. She was a hard worker, known for her ability to wear many hats with grace and efficiency. Whether she was visiting a sick relative or simply being there for a friend in need, Marillita's commitment to her faith and her community was unshakeable.
Marillita's love for her family was immense, and she reveled in watching her children and grandchildren playing in the mountains. Her lessons of compassion and care were not lost on her children, who have continued her legacy of caring for others in their own lives. Marillita's love for the melodies of her husband and daughters’ music often filled her home, providing a background at the many gatherings and celebrations. Her passion for cooking was equally renowned, and she was famous for her delicious tortillas, beans, and chile that brought family and friends together around the table.
Marillita was the epitome of a life well-lived. Her selfless nature and faith-filled heart were the pillars of her existence. She approached every day with passion and left no stone unturned in her quest to make the world a better place. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
As we bid farewell to Maria "Marillita" Martinez, we celebrate a life that was truly a gift, not just to her family but to all who felt blessed to know her. She will be remembered, cherished, and honored and her love for God and her family will continue to resonate within the community she loved so dearly. Marillita's journey on earth may have concluded, but her story will be told for generations to come, a testament to a life of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Marillita's Life Celebration will begin with a viewing on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 562 Atrisco Dr SW, 87105. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. Final Viewing will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 8:30am also at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass will begin at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Escobosa Cemetery in Escobosa, NM.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Jaquez, Juan Martinez, Bernardo Martinez III, Arturo Romero, Martin Griego and Ryan Ross.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Ruiz, Mateo Romero, Serjio Jaquez, and Monica Raquel.
