Mary Chavez, was born on February 17, 1931, and peacefully departed from this life on June 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering support for her family. She was born in Socorro, NM, and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, where she devoted her life to her family,
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nestor B. Chavez; her parents, Salomon Mora and Encarnacion Jaramillo; her sisters, Ramona Soto, Mary Lee Jojola and Margaret Luna; her brothers, Stanley Mora, Mike Mora and Salomon Mora; and her grandson, Ernie Estrada, and granddaughter, Christine Brandenburg.
Mary is survived by her 5 children; Nancy Chavez, Agnes Sedillo, Nestor (Ned) Chavez, Daniel Chavez and Jimmy Chavez; her grandchildren: James Griego, David Chris Sedillo, Lawrence Sedillo, Lissa Sedillo, Ryan Estrada, Mark Estrada, Michelle Reimer and Glenda Semler. 25 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Mary's proudest accomplishments were grounded in her deep-seated values. She was renowned for her good cooking, bringing her family together with her delicious meals that held the essence of love and tradition, especially during the holidays.
As a mother, her greatest pride was in nurturing her family. Her strength of character made her a dependable figure in the lives of many—someone who could always be counted on in times of need. Road trips and camping adventures in her younger years, created cherished memories for all. Mary liked the casino and collecting miniature toys and ceramic roosters all on display in her china cabinet.
As we remember Mary Chavez, we celebrate a life rich with compassion, generosity, and unwavering love. Her spirit will forever remain an integral part of the lives she touched, long-lasting and deeply felt.
Pallbearers will be James Griego, David Chris Sedillo, Michelle Reimer and Jada Martinez.
