Mary Jane "Tana" Stein

September 16, 1934 — October 22, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary Jane “Tana” Stein, who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 22, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents Teodoro and Juanita Gurule; parents Claudio and Elicia Gurule; brother Claudio Gurule, Jr.; first husband Juan Savedra; and her second husband Paul Stein, Sr.

She is survived by her loving children: Jake (Roseann), Rosemarie (Walter), Anita (Fermin), Elicia (Dominic), Josie (Paul), Johnny, Paul Jr., Maria (Roger); along with thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and friends.

Mary was a devoted Catholic and a woman of strong faith. She was raised by her grandparents, in the beautiful community of Cañoncito, New Mexico. She later married and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she spent the remainder of her life. Although Albuquerque became her home, she always cherished her roots and loved returning to the Santa Fe area to visit her many relatives and reconnect with family.

At 92 years old, Mary lived a long and fulfilling life centered on faith, family, and the simple joys that made each day special. She found happiness in her daily routines, beginning her mornings with a bowl of Cream of Wheat, a cup of coffee, and something sweet, usually a donut. She loved spending time outdoors, tending to her plants and flowers, and taking pride in their beauty.

Music was another joy in Mary's life. She enjoyed listening to New Mexican music on 89.1 FM, along with some of her favorite artists, including Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and Freddy Fender. She also loved watching classic television shows, especially westerns such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Her all-time favorite was Little House on the Prairie. She enjoyed a good laugh while watching comedy classics like Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, and Good Times.

One of Mary's favorite times of the year was fall, because it meant the return of NFL football. She was a die-hard Las Vegas Raiders fan and proudly wore her silver and black from head to toe for every game. Her living room reflected her team spirit, decorated with Raiders blankets, pillows, helmets, hats, banners, and even a football sitting beside her television. Her love for the Raiders was unmistakable and will always be one of the many things her family remembers with a smile.

Mary will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love for her family, and the simple ways she brought joy to those around her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mary's physicians, nurses, and caregivers for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided during her final weeks of life. Your support and dedication brought comfort to Mary and her family during this difficult time

Although saying goodbye is never easy, we find comfort in knowing that Mary is now free from pain and resting peacefully in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Her memory will live on through the love she shared, the traditions she cherished, and the countless memories she leaves behind.

Until we meet again, may you rest in God's eternal love.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
