Mary D. Romero lived a long and meaningful life marked by love, strength, and resilience. She left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Surrounded by the love of her family, Mary was peacefully called home on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Mathias Romero, Jr. 

She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Delfrate and husband Dave; Cathie Aragon and husband Herman; Mathias Romero III and wife Virginia; Bobby Atencio and wife Sue; Frank Romero and partner Kelly, she also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of pride and joy in her life.

Mary devoted much of her professional life to the field of behavioral health, where her dedication and passion made a lasting impact. She conducted research and served others with compassion throughout her career. Mary retired from the University of New Mexico Mental Health Center, where her work earned her numerous accolades and deep respect from her colleagues.

Mary's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2:00pm at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, 87102. Service will begin at 2:30pm.
