Nancy E. Southworth passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, after bravely facing cancer.
Nancy was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Louise Burns, and loving sister to Deanna, Michael, Jeanne, Mary, Jeff, and Denny. She was a devoted mother to Megan Hugaboom and Juli Brovarney, and a proud grandmother to Ris Brooks.
She spent most of her life in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico, where she built a life centered around family, learning, kindness, and service to others.
Nancy dedicated many years of her life to serving her community as an elementary school teacher until her retirement. She also generously volunteered with many organizations over the years, always eager to help others and contribute to the community she loved.
She was an avid gardener, reader, traveler, lifelong learner, and talented crafter and sewer. Nancy found joy in creativity, nature, and exploration. She traveled the world and especially loved hiking and camping throughout the mountain areas of New Mexico, where she made countless cherished memories. Her warmth, humor, intelligence, and loving spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her daughters, family, friends, former students, and all whose lives were made brighter by her kindness, wit, and love.
Nancy's Life Celebration will begin with a Gathering on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00am at Reflections Chapel located at 2400 Washington St. NE, 87110. Service will begin at 11:20am.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make a contribution to PBS in Nancy's honor.
