Richard Paul Quintana

August 11, 1942 — March 13, 2024

Richard Paul Quintana, a man of kind spirit, loving heart, and adventurous soul, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on August 11, 1942, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, Richard's zest for life and insatiable curiosity were evident from his early years.

Richard was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sostenes and Eutimia, brother Billy, and sister Margaret.

He is survived by brother Robert (Eva) Quintana, Juan (Nancy) Quintana, nephew Christopher (Andrea) Quintana, niece Lisa Brooks, niece Crystal (Richard) Whitten, nephew John Thomas (Sarina) Quintana, niece Dana Burdick, and numerous grand nephews.

Richard earned a bachelor’s degree in French Literature from UNM and did graduate work at the Sorbonne in Paris and at UNM. He authored “The Comprehensive Dictionary of Patron Saints.”

Richard's passion for reading and writing was matched only by his love for movies, which he often said were like windows into other worlds. His adventurous nature led him to travel and live in numerous places, each new location providing him with stories and experiences that he treasured deeply. Among his many journeys, Richard was particularly fond of his visits to Spain, a country he felt a profound connection with, and where he indulged in his love for history and genealogy.

A true "history worm," Richard's knowledge of the past was extensive, and he took great pride in his involvement with the New Mexican Hispanic Culture Preservation League, an initiative close to his heart that aimed to protect and celebrate the rich Hispanic heritage

Those who knew Richard will remember him for his kindness and the warmth he extended to everyone he met. His legacy is one of love, learning, and the pursuit of adventure. Richard's memory will be cherished and kept alive by the countless stories he shared and the lives he touched with his generous spirit.

As we bid farewell to Richard Paul Quintana, we celebrate a life well-lived and a journey well-traveled. His departure leaves behind a trail of light for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Richard. Your story continues in the hearts of those you've left behind.
