Julia Lechuga

Julia Lechuga, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

She is survived by her sisters: Stella Chavez, Rosalina Garcia; sisters-in-law: Julia Garcia, Lucille Garcia, Betty Garcia; three children: Elida Lechuga (Jim Ellis), Gilbert Lechuga, Alice Denise Lechuga: six grandchildren: Kayleena Rosier (George Rosier), Trevor Ellis, Leroy Trujillo, Luis Lechuga, Marlayna Romero (Dominic Romero), Steven Trujillo; five great-grandchildren: Jordan Good, Marisol Trujillo, Landon Rosier, Ethan Rosier and Julian Trujillo. She would not want us to forget mentioning family friend, Frank Delwiche, and special friend, Elena Mitchel, who spent a lot of time with her later in life.

Julia was born in Los Ranchos, New Mexico to Elvira and Gabriel Garcia in 1929. She was the middle child in a family of eleven, eight brothers, Alfredo Garcia, Telesfor Garcia, Roman Garcia, Luciano Garcia, Ermenes Garcia, Louis Garcia, Abel Garcia and Gabriel Garcia, Jr., all of whom predeceased her.

After surviving polio as a child, Julia went on to be an amazing seamstress who furnished draperies to many fine households throughout Albuquerque. She made her own clothes for most of her life and often made or altered clothes for many in her family. After retiring, she found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren but also enjoyed spending time in bingo parlors and winning money at the casino.

Julie's Life Celebration will begin with a Mass on Friday, November 2, 2022 at 9:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church located at 9502 4th St. NW, 87114. Julia will be laid to rest following the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, 87109.
