It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Melecio "Mel" Sanchez, Jr., at the age of 93, on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Mel passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short illness, with his loving wife by his side.
He was preceded in death by his mother Emelina Sanchez, father Melecio Sanchez, Sr.; daughter Angela Quintana; great-grandson Matthew Graham, special nephew Stephen Sanchez and four brothers.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Agueda Sanchez; daughters: Darlene Zamora (Joe), Janet Sanchez (Ruben), Erlinda Sanchez (Fred); sister Katie Rodarte (Sam); sisters-in-law: Esperanza Sanchez, Olympia Salas, Maria Romero (Edward) , 5 granddaughters, 13 great grandkids, 7 great-great grandkids. He will be greatly missed.
Mel was born on March 20, 1930. He served during the Korean War, after discharge he worked for Gate City Steel for over 30 years.
Mel loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles since he was a little boy. Throughout his life he always owned a few Harleys at a time. He traveled to Sturgis for 21 years riding his Harley the whole time going and coming.
Mel was a jokester and had nicknames for everyone.
Mel's Life Celebration will begin with a visitation at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Salazar Mortuary located 400 Third St SW, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Final viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 8:30 am. at the Shrine of The Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church located at 300 Mildred Ave NW, 87107. Mass will begin at 9:00 am. Mel will be laid to rest following the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, 87102.
Pallbearers will be Joe Zamora, Robert Trujillo, Ruben Sanchez, Fred Ruiz, Robert Graham, and Randall Calderon, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Calderon, Willi Richmann, Diego Calderon, Taylor Vigil, and Izaea Vigil.
