Valerie Lynn Roybal Obituary

Valerie Lynn Roybal, 49, Artist and Author passed away at her home in Albuquerque November 28, 2018, after an amazing life. She was born in Santa Fe, NM June 26, 1969. She is survived by her father Buddy, mother Angela, step-mother Irene, sisters Dory and Melissa, brother, Michael, aunts, uncles, cousins and a loving circle of friends.  

She received her BA in graphic design from the University of New Mexico where she was employed until her retirement.  A noted collage artist, she received the Pollock-Krasner Artist Award in 2016. Her work has shown at numerous exhibitions and venues including The New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, The Biennial Southwest at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, and The National Book and Paper Arts Biennial at Columbia College Center of Books and Paper in Chicago.  She was featured in the November 2017, Albuquerque Magazine. Her commissioned Art is seen in fine hotels throughout the country. A backyard beekeeper, she received blue ribbon awards at the New Mexico State Fair, and was instrumental in building the Bee Hotel at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center.

Valerie’s passion became her role as a professionally trained volunteer for “Inova Life with Cancer”, an organization which provides free wellness support and educational programs to cancer patients and their families.  To learn more or make a donation in memory of Valerie go to: lifewithcancer@Inova.org.

Valerie will be remembered for her joyful laughter, love of nature, and giving new life to discarded objects which created her masterpieces and can be seen at valerieroybalartist.com

 Valerie’s life celebration began with a series of events and exhibitions at The Sanitary Tortilla Factory February 1 – March 8, 2019.  A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
